The yearly Apple Event has been announced, which means the latest in iOS devices and services will be revealed soon. The event, titled “Time Flies,” will reveal new hardware and services, although recent announcements around delayed devices raise questions about the specifics. With that in mind, here’s what we can expect at Apple’s “Time Flies” event.

Apple’s Event

“Time Flies” will begin on September 15, 2020 at 10 am PDT. Like with the most recent WWDC, the event will not be held in person, but streamed to viewers from the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park.

Previous events, like 2019’s “By Innovation Only,” introduced new devices like the iPhone 11 series, as well as new services like Apple Arcade. Based on historical patterns and recent announcements, we can have an idea of what to expect from this year’s event.

New Devices

The September events are typically used to announce new flagship devices. In this case, users are anticipating an iPhone 12, but based on recent announcements, Apple may break from tradition this year.

Apple recently announced the iPhone 12 would be delayed. The release is pushed back “a few weeks,” which may also delay the announcement. While it is possible that Apple would announce the phone in advance and release it at a later date, Bloomberg reports that the new iPhone will not be the focus of the event.

Instead, the focus may be on a new Apple Watch and iPad.

Apple Watch

Reports suggest that Apple is preparing to release the Apple Watch Series 6. The rumored new wearable devices include a microLED display, new health features and sleep tracking. There is also early buzz of a “kid mode” for the Apple Watch and smaller models with plastic casing (rather than aluminum).

iPad

The next expected iPad release is the iPad Air 4. Early leaks suggest this would bring the iPad Pro’s edgeless design to the iPad Air, while adding a Smart Connector for Magic Keyboards, a USB-C port and new, faster processor chips.

While there is no confirmation for any of these features yet, we can expect to learn more during the event.

New Services

Apple has been introducing new subscription services over the years, such as News+, Apple TV+ and Apple Music. There has been recent buzz over plans to bundle these services together, and according to code found within the Apple Music app, the plan will soon be put into action.

The “Apple One” bundle will allow users to subscribe to multiple Apple services on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac devices. Considering last year’s event introduced Apple Arcade and Apple TV+, “Time Flies” would be an opportune moment to introduce a new service or bundle.

Where You Can Watch It

Apple’s new event will be streamed online on Apple’s website on Tuesday, September 15 at 10 am. Keep an eye on Gummicube for coverage of all information from the event relevant to app development, marketing and App Store Optimization.
